Churp Out! Pep Rally 2013

In a wolf pack, the dominant wolf is often called the Alpha. It’s usually the most aggressive or strongest in the group (pack).

In the online community (Twitter, Facebook, blogs and other social media especially in the Nuffnang and Churp Churp Community), the ones that lead the pack are called Alpha Influencers.

Churp Out Pep Rally 2013

I’m one of the lucky 5 Nuffnangers (via FB contest) who were given invitation to the official launch of the Churp Churp Alpha Influencers in the event called “Churp Out! Pep Rally 2013”. It was held yesterday at the Prive Luxury Club, The Fort Strip, Bonifacio Global City.

I was able to see in person some of the Alpha Influencers like Chuckie Dreyfus, Victor Basa, Abe Olandres among others. GMA Kapuso star Mikael Daez, (who’s also a blogger), was also present in the event. David Guison and Abra were also Alpha Influencers along with Divine Lee, Patty Laurel, Dale Kins, Jenni Epperson, Nyko Rodriguez and the Googly Gooeys.

I came at the party around 7:00 PM and I was able to taste all the foods at the buffet table – 3 types of pasta, Club House, sweets, spicy Chicken wings, Tortillos, etc. The staffs were very accommodating.

I love how Prive Luxury Club was acoustically treated. The party music doesn’t hurt my ears at all. The place has mezzanine and high ceilings with elegant chandeliers to give the feel of elegance, glamour and style.

The program started with a cheerleading number. DJ Sarah was the host of the evening. Abe Olandres, country manager of Nuffnang Philippines, and Ms. Esguerra, Talent Manager, delivered the opening remarks. After that, the Churp Churp Alpha Influencers were introduced to the crowd.

There were 2 contests that immediately followed – sponsored by Skechers and Marks & Spencer – via Instagram wherein Gift Certificates were given away as well as a Samsung Galaxy Tab with Globe Tattoo Home. The crowd was invited to send out their favorite Churp Out Moment.

I left the venue as soon as the program ended since I still have to go to work. The Churp Out! Pep Rally 2013 was a total blast. I can’t wait to attend a similar event. Hopefully, I’ll win 2 invites so that I could bring my Plus One.

James Franco the Great and Powerful

I enjoyed watching “Oz the Great and Powerful” last night at Cinema 1, Shangri-La Cineplex in Mandaluyong City. The movie stars James Franco, one of my favorite actors, in the title role as Oz. It’s the prequel to the classic 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz”.

Oz the Great and Powerful

Thank you Nuffnang Philippines, Abenson and Nokia for the free movie tickets!

Along with fairy tales having darker tones or twists, another common trait of movies nowadays are prequels to popular films. Take a look at “The Hobbit” (prequel to “The Lord of the Rings”) and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” (also starring James Franco).

I first noticed James Franco when he starred as Harry Osborn in the 2002 Spider-Man movie opposite Tobey Maguire. Then I saw James Franco again in movies like “Milk”, “Tristan and Isolde” and “127 Hours”. I find him humorous, charming, and a very versatile actor. He showed these characteristics again in “Oz the Great and Powerful”.

James Franco 2007 Spider-Man 3

James Franco in 2007 as the second Green Goblin in Spider-Man 3.

He played the character of Oz, a charming circus magician from Kansas who was warped into the Land of Oz through a tornado. He finds the land menaced by the Wicked Witched. He also met the queen of Emerald City who motivated him (through the city’s vast treasure), to end the terror of the Wicked Witch.

I love how the movie was transitioned from black and white (with 4:3 ratio similar to the 1939 film) to color, in 16:9 widescreen, when James Franco arrived in the Land of Oz. It was a great concept and something I haven’t seen before. I also loved how they presented the opening credits to give the feeling that we’re watching the original 1939 movie.

I haven’t watched “The Wizard of Oz” yet but watching the prequel, “Oz the Great and Powerful” somehow gave me an idea on what to expect from the original, classic film. I guess the director and producers decided to retain the family-oriented nature of the original movie instead of giving it a darker tone/twist like “Jack the Giant Slayer”.

“Oz the Great and Powerful” is definitely a must-see movie (Rated PG) for the entire family. I would like to thank Nuffnang Philippines, Abenson and Nokia for the free movie tickets.

My Nuffnang ATM

The other day, I received a notification on my email that my 2nd Nuffnang cheque is on its way. Then one of the Nuffnang personnel asked me for my bank details. I applied for my Nuffnang ATM in early February and I asked the accounting personnel to check if my ATM is available. She verified that it is.

Don’t have your ATM yet? Visit their office to apply for your own Nuffnang ATM.

So I dropped by the Nuffnang office today (at Bonifacio High Street) and got my Nuffnang ATM. It gave me a feeling of accomplishment that I can consider myself as a certified Nuffnanger and blogger. The envelope containing my ATM is complete with instructions on how to enroll my Nuffnang ATM with Online Banking as well. The ATM by the way is through Security Bank.

The monetary pay that I’m receiving from Nuffnang is just the icing on the cake. What I love about being a Nuffnanger is the many perks and prizes that they are giving away. The latest prize that I got from Nuffnang Philippines (and its many generous sponsors) would be the 4 tickets to the screening of “Oz the Great and Powerful” which will be shown tonight at Shangri-La Mall, Mandaluyong City.

So for those bloggers who are not part of Nuffnang Philippines yet, I encourage you to visit their website to complete your blogging experience. Nuffnang Philippines has so much to offer to bloggers like us.

I love how the Nuffnang ATM is personalized.

Live Your Style with Adidas NEO

When it comes to fashion or clothing style, I don’t consider myself stylish. I would love to be as stylish as David Guison but my personality, which is shy and meek, dictates that I should wear the most basic clothing. Fortunately, I work in the BPO industry (call center) and my current company, which is based in Ortigas, doesn’t require smart casual clothing. So I can go to work wearing my favorite style – T-shirt, cargo pants and rubber shoes!

I love the style of clothing projected by Kyo Sohma of the anime "Fruits Basket". He usually wears a V-Neck shirt, a cargo pants and rubber shoes. Photo courtesy of sushi rabu of Deviant Art.

When it comes to T-shirt, I prefer wearing white or black. Sometimes I wear colored shirts as long as the shirt doesn’t have print on it. Since I have a very shy personality, I refrain from wearing shirts that are standout – like orange shirts, neon green, hot pink, or yellow.

I’m also a Canon user and a member of the Canon A-Team so I also love wearing red shirts. I always wear a red shirt in Canon events and activities. Sometimes I even wear red at work and I would get comments like “Birthday mo?” (Is it your birthday?). I don’t know how red was associated with birthday.

When it comes to pants, I prefer wearing cargo pants and jeans. I find cargo pants very comfortable and useful. Since I carry ID, coin purse, wallet and mobile phone, I make the most out of the cargo pants’ many pockets. I also love the Earth colors of most cargo pants. Hindi dumihin. (Doesn’t easily look dirty). Cargo pants also give a feeling of masculinity and I love to feel very masculine.

Regarding footwear, I love wearing rubber shoes. Rubber shoes are very comfortable and can be worn at any weather condition. I specially love black rubber shoes since it doesn’t easily look dirty (similar to cargo pants).

So that’s how I express my personality through my style – shirt, cargo pants and rubber shoes. It’s typical call center apparel especially to those who are shy and meek like me who wanted to camouflage in the crowd.

Speaking of rubber shoes, good thing Adidas has a new collection. Embrace fun, spontaneity and the unexpected twists in fashion when the adidas NEO Label Spring 2013 collection hits stores in January to March.

Living a carefree journey that lets teens make their own style, NEO will capture attention with unique and innovative fashion and design twists on Spring merchandise. Products have multiple purposes or added value.

NEO will release a fresh product offering each month, spotlighting a fashion trend interpreted in a different way. In March patterns are the highlight, featuring vibrant waves of colour, with subtle patterns that appear to be one thing but on close inspection reveal another. These will include camouflage prints and edgy takes on adidas NEO slogans with a focus on windbreakers and shirts. Sporty, street and lifestyle footwear silhouettes with strong colour and graphic links create the look.

NEO footwear is available in SM and select Robinson’s Department Stores nationwide.

1st Orosa Nakpil Food Festival

By Fritz Valle

I'm happy to be one of the bloggers who will be part of the 1st Orosa Nakpil Food Festival by the Malate Business Association. The league of bar owners along the streets of Orosa and Nakpil in the center of Manila's nightlife have come up with an idea to add spice, put sugar coating, sprinkle chocolates, and put a cherry on top to how we enjoy nightlife or our weekend bonding with friends. This event is not only for party-goers but most especially for food lovers (which makes all of us)!

Orosa Nakpil Food Festival

Gone are the days when we need to pay for an entrance to enter the vicinity and I hope it's gone forever. But of course, food are not for free. Haha!

I'm excited about this project because I want to help in maintaining Malate as the original spot for leisure, entertainment, business, and art in the metro. Malate is an artist haven. I also happen to be born there. Yes! On Singalong Street. Let's backtrack a little and rediscover the rich history of Malate by reading what Mr. Wiki has to tell us from his sources.

Each bar will offer their own specialties and they have invited food concessionaires to add to our choices. It will be like a school fair all over again except that there will be no ferry's wheel or carousel available. All we need are our friends and a HUGE appetite!

Save the date: March 16, Saturday. Event starts at 5pm. Before sunset and will last right before sunrise or maybe a little after.

Check the event here to join the event and also see who else are coming. Feel free to invite your friends.

I will raffle off something for my readers who will join this event. I will finalize it with the organizers and will post mechanics tomorrow. It could be a dinner for two, a barkada treat, or who knows... an eat all you can ticket! I will post the link on the FB event so be sure to check it out. For the meantime, spread the word and start planning, guys!

Great Time With “Jack the Giant Slayer”

I had a great time last night watching “Jack the Giant Slayer” at Cinema 1, Newport Cinema, Resorts World Manila. The event was organized by Nuffnang Philippines and PLDT myDSL.

Jack the Giant Slayer

I definitely had a great time watching “Jack the Giant Slayer” at Newport Cinema 1, Resorts World, Manila.

“Jack the Giant Slayer” is the continuation of the trend in giving new twists to classic fairy tales that started with “(Little) Red Riding Hood”. “Jack the Giant Slayer” is of course inspired by “Jack and the Beanstalk”. All the elements of the fairy tale are there but with added plot similar to the Battle of Helm’s Deep (“Lord of the Rings”).

The scenes are somehow divided into 3 – the prologue, which tells the story on how the magic beans were created; the rescue of the princes and the battle.

What I like about the story is the medieval setting of the movie, which made me feel like I’m watching a classic knighthood tale. I also love Nicholas Hoult (Jack) because he played the role of a farm boy quite well and yes, he’s cute.

Nicholas_Hoult_2009

Nicholas Hoult who played Jack in “Jack the Giant Slayer” also starred in the films “Warm Bodies” and “X-Men: First Class”.

I also love the animation of the beanstalk – how it grew and reached the sky. I also love the CGI of “the sky” where the giants live. It also reignites my fear of heights.

The only thing that I don’t like about the movie is the inconsistency with the giants’ height in reference to human size. You’ll probably notice it as well when you watch it. There are also scenes that might disturb kids since the giants are human-eating species. Other than these observations, the movie is great.

“Jack the Giant Slayer” is definitely a must-see movie. It gave “darker tone” to the fairy tale. The ending of the movie somehow gives the impression that the story of Jack is real.
