Earlier this morning, we were at the Lubao International Balloon Festival at Lubao, Pampanga. It’s now on its 2nd year and it’s a great experience to see it, as media personnel, not just as spectator. As a blogger and photographer, we got the chance to have a media pass and experience the balloon festival up close.
The event started with a briefing, for the pilots, chase crew and media. There were weathermen who reported the expected weather of the day and some other reminders for everyone involved with the festival. It’s a bit windy but still within the allowable weather condition for balloon-flying.
Around 6am, the balloons were inflated and we got the chance to shoot it up close – the pilots and the chase crew. The balloons were made of nylon material and they’re using a type of LPG to heat up the air. There’s a huge fan blowing air inside the balloon and once it’s almost full of air, they begun heating it up with a form of flamethrower.
Some of the remarkable balloons were the Smurf, Yoda, Darth Vader, among others. It’s also my first time to ride the hot air balloon, even for a short time. It’s also nice to see celebrities who showed up for the event like Marco Alcaraz, Jake Cuenca, Ivan Mayrina, among others.
The Lubao International Balloon Festival will run until Sunday, March 29, 2015. Special thanks to Dave Bedico for the passes.
