The Parking Lot

There’s one place in Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ) that I considered my favorite spot. We call it “The Parking Lot”. It’s in front of Wynn's Bar & Grill near the oldest structure in SBFZ – The West Gate. Last August 4, 2012 during my visit to Olongapo and Subic, The Parking Lot was the first place in my list to visit.

My first love, Aerous, introduced me to this place in the summer of 2004. It was my first time in Olongapo and in Subic Bay Freeport Zone. Aerous lives in Olongapo and I met him through the online game Ragnarok. The Parking Lot is Aerous’ favorite hang-out place in SBFZ. It’s an old parking lot and is no longer in use. There used to be a stage there where we usually lie, stare at the stars and talk until midnight. There was also an old airplane there. However, the last time I was at The Parking Lot, both the stage and the airplane were gone.

From 2004 to 2009, I have travelled to Subic Bay and Olongapo around 15 times. I’m usually there overnight (I sleep at Aerous’ room), sometimes 2-3 days and other times 5-6 days.

During those trips and overnights, we usually visit The Parking Lot and the surrounding areas including the (former) Boardwalk, Xtremely Xpresso Café and the Tappan Park. We have so much memories of Subic Bay Freeport Zone in general.

Today, Aerous is already living with his boyfriend. He works and stays in Manila most of the time. We’re still good friends up to this day and we still meet once in a while. We update each other on the things that have been happening to each other’s lives. During these meet-ups, memories of our visits to The Parking Lot still flood my thoughts and it never fails to make me smile.

Subic Bay Travelers Hotel (Part 1 of 2)

I haven’t seen my first love in months so when I learned that he’s back in his hometown of Olongapo, I decided to meet him and spend my weekends in Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

That was last August 4-5, 2012 before the city was ravaged by the monsoon rains (Habagat). I booked my hotel room a few weeks before that date via Agoda. It cost me PHP 1,750.00 and it was charged to my HSBC credit card.

When I booked my hotel room, I looked for the lowest hotel room rate in Subic Bay Freeport Zone and it was Subic Bay Travelers Hotel that offered it. I have no idea how beautiful the hotel room was. This is the 2nd time I booked a hotel room online. The first one was in February 2012 at the Albergo Hotel.

I used to travel to Olongapo and the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in previous years. I have a long-distance friendship with Aerous and he always takes me to this place although his home is in Barretto, Subic, Zambales.

We passed by the Subic Bay Travelers Hotel a lot of times and I never knew that it was the same hotel that I booked my room with. Over-all, it was a pleasant stay. The hotel room is affordable (my first priority) and yet it’s elegant. The lobby, restaurant and swimming pool are inspired by the Italian town of Venice and you could see a lot of pictures of this famous city.

I’ll post the pictures of my hotel room tomorrow but for now, let the pictures tell you how simple yet elegant their lobby is.
