The Malabon Tricycle Tours is a project of the City Government of Malabon headed by Mayor Antolin A Oreta III. It has two versions – the Malabon Food Trip and the Heritage Tour. We availed the P600 Food Trip and we were toured to 6 of Malabon’s finest food destinations – Lugaw Xperience, Hazel’s Special Puto, Jamico’s Restaurant, Dolor’s Kakanin, Betsy’s Cake Center and Nanay’s Pancit Malabon.
After our lunch at Jamico’s Restaurant, we also visited the Concepcion Market, which is part of the Heritage Tour, on our way to Dolor’s Kakanin. There is a bit of politics regarding Dolor’s Kakanin, regarding the use of trademark and colored boxes, but my attention was diverted from the tour guide to the delicious meryenda and Kakanin. We had a taste of all the kinds of Kakanin that they offer – Pichi-Pichi, Sapin-Sapin, Puto, Maja Blanca, Kuchinta, etc. Dolor’s Kakanin are so famous that it’s being sold in malls around Metro Manila.
Betsy’s Cake Center is near the San Bartolome Church and it reminds me of the famous Calea of Bacolod City. The one included in the Malabon Food Trip package is their famous Broas. They also gave us samples of their other specialties including a very delicious Ampalaya Atchara.
Last stop to our Malabon Food Trip is Nanay’s Pancit Malabon. It’s the very first Pancit Malabon and was recently awarded by Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho the title of “Best Pancit Malabon”. I was a bit surprised though that it’s the most plain-looking Pancit Malabon I've ever seen. I guess they really maintained the first and original version of Pancit Malabon. It’s delicious but I prefer the other versions from other stores.
Nanay’s Pancit Malabon also offers a unique version of the classic Palitaw – they put Leche Flan inside the Palitaw! It’s a very delicious dessert indeed.
There you have it – the 6 best food stops in Malabon City included in their Malabon Food Trip. We’re very happy to visit Malabon and took part in this wonderful project. I can’t wait to see a similar version of this here in Pasig City. For now, I highly recommend that you visit Malabon for their Food Trip Tour. It’s worth the travel, time and money.
