I just came home from TOYCON 2012 held at Megatrade Hall, SM Megamall. As expected, it was jam-packed with people who are into comics, action figures, cosplay, games, and other toys.
This year’s TOYCON was dominated by DC and Marvel characters, particularly Batman and Spider-Man. Most probably because their upcoming movies are currently being marketed: The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man. Other movies that are present in this year’s TOYCON was G.I. Joe: Retaliation and The Bourne Legacy.
There were also a lot of DC and Marvel characters amongst cosplayers. I saw Superman, Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Thor, Iron Man, Loki, War Machine, among others. There were also a lot of booths dedicated to the latest Batman movie as well as both DC and Marvel action figures.
I also saw a brand new race course – race cars named SCX Digital System. It’s the latest incarnation of Tamiya and the racers are wielding a gun to control the cars. There were also a lot of action figures inspired by our Pambansang Kamao, Manny Pacquiao.
The usual action figures are still there – Transformers, Astroboy, Dragon Ball Z, Voltron, Star Wars, Street Fighter, Naruto, One Piece, Super Mario, Harry Potter, and several anime. I even saw a female Archbishop from Ragnarok Online.
There’s also this cute guy who seems to be famous. He’s probably a TV personality because they seem to be doing a segment for a TV show. I have absolutely no idea who he is but he’s really cute in person. Who is this guy?
What makes this year’s TOYCON unique is the tribute to Filipino Master Illustrator Alfredo P. Alcala. He’s a famous artist for both DC and Marvel comics most notably Batman comics.
Famous cosplayer Alodia was also present in this year’s TOYCON as well as famous band Kamikaze but I went home early even before the cosplay competition started. I’ll post more pictures of the action figures and the cosplayers tomorrow.
